Alternate title option: Broadway in the Canyon – Where Unforgettable is an Understatement
Tuacahn Center For The Arts, located in Ivins (near St. George) is one of Utah’s most beloved and successful ventures ever. In its 24th year, Tuacahn has yet again expanded its vision of what outdoor Broadway theater is capable of. With state-of-the-art production technology, world-class equity acting talent, and trademark red rock surroundings, Tuacahn provides a theater experience that simply cannot be duplicated. Unforgettable is an understatement.

The 2019 season of Broadway in the Canyon is set to be one of the most exciting in the theater’s history.

The Little Mermaid (MAY – OCT 25)

Transitioning a beloved animated film into a stage musical is no small task, but you can rest assured that no one does it better than Disney. Using music from their landmark 1989 film composed by Oscar & Grammy-winning songwriter Alan Menken and still based on Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless tale, The Little Mermaid returns to Tuacahn for the second time since 2014. On a journey of love and self-discovery, young sea princess Ariel fulfills her wish of leaving her home in the ocean to explore the world on land by making a Faustian pact with the evil sea witch, Ursula. In defiance of her overly-protective father, King Triton, and in pursuit of the handsome Prince Eric, Ariel learns many lessons during her adventure with the help of friends like Sebastian the crab, Scuttle the seagull, and Flounder the fish.

When You Wish (MAY – OCT 24)

An original Disney musical performed exclusively on Tuacahn’s stage (to date), When You Wish combines classic music from a variety of popular Disney films, weaving songs together to create a thrilling story of a young girl on an enchanted journey. This production features music from Moana, Aladdin, Tarzan, Mary Poppins, and many more!

The Sound of Music (JULY – OCT 26)

One of the most successful and well-known musical films of all-time, The Sound of Music made Julie Andrews a worldwide star in 1965 and has never lost an ounce of popularity since then. The Broadway version retains all the music and magic from the film. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s unforgettable score takes us to wartime Austria and follows the Von Trapp family and their new free-spirited governess, Maria, as she injects music, joy, and laughter into their strict and traditional household. Meanwhile, family patriarch Captain Von Trapp faces a life-changing decision to either support the Nazi regime or disavow his allegiance, turning his family into fugitives on the run.

Gentleman’s Guide To Love and Murder (JULY 5 – AUG 10)

Performing in Tuacahn’s newly-renovated Hafen Indoor Theater, this hilarious musical comedy won 4 Tony Awards in 2014, including Best Musical. This new show follows Monty Navarro, a smooth-talking and quick-thinking conman who attempts to work his way down the family tree in an attempt to be next in line to inherit the D’Ysquith family fortune. His methods are charming, hilarious, and, well, murderous.

Elf: The Musical (NOV 29 – DEC 21)

The classic holiday comedy starring Will Ferrell was transformed into an equally memorable stage musical in 2010. If you’ve seen the movie, you’re going to love this show. Little orphan Buddy sneaks into Santa’s bag on Christmas Eve and is subsequently raised in the North Pole. Growing into adulthood, Buddy has found it difficult fitting in among elf-culture, but still believing that he’s just an oversized elf. When his adopted elf-father breaks the news that Buddy is, in fact, human, this sets him on an adventure to find his real father (who’s on the naughty list) in New York City. A lot of heart and laughs ensue as Buddy attempts to acquire the love of his family and help spread Christmas cheer.
